MSC Cruises Ship Classes
Despite being the third-largest cruise line in the world, MSC Cruises also operates smaller, more intimate ships, some of which are roughly only a fourth in size when compared to the upcoming MSC World America. Currently, all MSC Cruises ships belong to one of the six categories or classes. The difference between ship classes ultimately comes down to size, amenities found onboard, and distinctive features.
- World Class: As of 2024 only two ships fall into this class: MSC World America and MSC World Europa, and two more are on their way in the next few years. All vessels in this class are liquified natural gas-fueled. Ships in this class are floating megaresorts buzzing with hundreds of amenities. The amenities and attractions on World Class ships are separated into districts, making it easier for guests to navigate these massive vessels, such as the "Zen District" (adults-only) and the "Family District". Ships on this class boast over 10 pools and hot tubs in total with an aquatic park that features multiple waterslides which integrate virtual reality. There is also a wide offer of dining venues, 13 total, and 3 separate buffet restaurants. As for the staterooms, World Class ships have 19 different cabin categories, all with elegant and innovative designs to make the experience more comfortable. Entertainment venues are more spacious, innovative, and futuristic in this class, guests can enjoy original products, live music, and shows at the World Theater, the Luna Park Arena, or the kinetic LED dome in the World Galleria.
- Seaside Class: All vessels on this ship class feature several outdoor and open-air spaces for strolling, bar-hopping, and enjoying the fresh sea breeze and weather. A very spacious and uncovered outdoor promenade is located on deck 8 allowing guests to feel even closer to the ocean and its blue waters, several pool areas are also found throughout the ships from this class, some of which are connected by glass-enclosed and elegant elevators. Seaside Class vessels have the highest ratio of outdoor space per guest of the MSC Cruises fleet. Guests can find nine restaurants, of which five are specialty dining, and 19 classy bars and lounges distributed along the ship. Seaside Class ships have endless fun onboard for everyone featuring the Metropolitan Theater, a high-tech and innovative venue where you can enjoy live performances, a multi-story waterpark with 5 slides, an amusement area with an F1 simulator, and bowling alleys, playgrounds and colorful areas designed for kids. Ships in this category are MSC Seaside, MSC Seaview, MSC Seashore, and MSC Seascape.
- Meraviglia Class: Filled with more than 25 restaurants, bars, and lounges, Meraviglia Class ships are perfect for food enthusiasts who enjoy a good meal, a good drink, or both! All five ships in this class are built around the vast interior promenade which is covered in an innovative "digital sky" completely made out multiple of LED screens, the promenade also hosts multiple dining venues, bars, lounges, and shops. This class shares a lot of venues and amenities with the World Class ships, the main difference between these classes lies in the gross tonnage and the slightly wider gastronomic offer. Meraviglia Class ships also feature the Starship Club where Rob, the first humanoid robotic bartender will surprise you with a carefully crafted signature cocktail! MSC Meraviglia, MSC Bellissima, MSC Grandiosa, MSC Virtuosa, and MSC Euribia make up the Meraviglia Class.
- Fantasia Class: Ships in this class are dedicated to leisure and entertainment with a big emphasis on luxurious and elegant interiors, some staircases are made out of Swarovski crystal with golden-colored details and ornaments found throughout all ships on this class. Fantasia Class ships also feature a real stone piazza that is also a lounging area where guests can enjoy a few drinks and indulge in live music and a breathtaking infinity pool located aft on deck 15. There is a variety of entertainment options onboard such as the theater which offers Broadway-style shows, the glamorous and dazzling casino, a 4D cinema, a video arcade with a Formula 1 simulator, waterslides, and a nightclub, it doesn't matter the time of the day, there will be always something to do. Fantasia Class ships have a more eclectic and limited number of dining venues than other MSC Cruises classes, yet they still boast world-class cuisine with two main dining rooms, a buffet, and a handful of specialty restaurants. MSC Fantasia, MSC Splendida, MSC Divina, and MSC Preziosa make up the Fantasia Class.
- Musica Class: All Musica Class vessels are smaller, more tranquil, and intimate yet still boast an elegant and classy design. Due to the size, ships on this class lack all the thrilling and over-the-top amenities that other ship classes have such as the waterslides and waterparks, the 4D cinemas, or the video arcade with its various simulators, however, Musica Class ships still have the essentials for a great vacation like a spa, a theater, a casino, multiple bars and lounges and some pools and whirlpools on the top decks. The variety of dining venues is limited to five options in each ship where guests can enjoy top gourmet cuisine from different parts of the world. MSC Musica, MSC Orchestra, MSC Poesia, and MSC Magnifica make up the Musica Class.
- Lirica Class: Dating back to the early 2000s, this ship class is the smallest one in the MSC Cruises fleet. These ships usually sail on very rich itineraries through South America, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East. A smaller size means fewer amenities and offers a more enriching and intimate vacation, this is especially alluring for people who are more interested in the ports visited by the ships than the amenities inside of it. Lirica Class ships have two pools and two whirlpools each located on deck 11, and a minigolf course that can be found on deck 13. The MSC Aurea Spa, a fully-equipped gym, a running track, and a sports court are also available onboard for guests who love fitness and relaxation. Despite the limited number of restaurants onboard, you can expect to find some gourmet dining venues that serve a particular type of cuisine and two buffest with a variety of dishes, from comfort food to snacks. Entertainment is also limited to the onboard theater and the casino or you can head to some of the bars and lounges to enjoy live music. MSC Armonia, MSC Sinfonia, MSC Lirica, and MSC Opera make up the Lirica Class.
